i would love to have a career as a photographer.  i would have a lot of work and training to complete and i hope i get to that someday.  for right now though, i’ve been playing with my photos in paint shop pro.  i can’t afford photoshop yet.  :)

my husband and i visited the pike aquarium in long beach in december.  we had a great time and it was fascinating to see the many different creatures.

below is a picture that i tried to take of a jellyfish.  it was in a clear tank that set partially in the middle of the floor.  that made it hard to get a good picture.  there were shadows and you could see people on the other side of the aquarium and the jellyfish moved in a quick fluttery way that made them hard to capture.  i didn’t write down or make note of the species name.

beautiful orange jellyfish

above is the photo with no manipulation.  that is how beautiful it was just naturally.  below is a manipulation from psp that makes the picture over in a type of vintage photo.  it was fun…it makes the colors a bit unusual.  the description said that this technique was used in the 1960′s.

photo effects manipulation

i wouldn’t say that the second is better…just something different.  i have a long way to go before my pictures are worth framing!

below is a photo that i took when we visited lake bled in slovenia.  it was rainy and overcast most of the time we were there so the conditions weren’t ideal for photos but as a tourist…i didn’t care.

the original picture somewhat washed out and dark

it’s not a bad picture but it was an overcast day and this was the best i could get as an amateur.  the funny thing about this picture is that it seems dark and yet washed out at the same time.  also, the castle looks as if a giant light was shining on it.  the walls of the castle are so bright!

a bit too bright and unatural

another thing about these castle pictures – my husband mentioned that the castle roof looks too fake, too orange.  the funny thing is, if you look at the original image, the roof is just that orange!

so that’s what i have so far.  i’ve just started trying to learn how to manipulate photos other than removing wrinkles and blemishes and whitening teeth.  :)
