weekend at the homestead…

it was an extremely uneventful weekend at our house this weekend for which i’m very grateful.  i hate having to run and be constantly busy every weekend.  it gave me a chance to catch up or rather should i say start and finish season one and two of the show ‘true blood’.  i had heard it was good and that if you liked twilight you should give it a try.  i did and i’m hooked.  after mentioning it on facebook, several people said i should read the books as they were EVEN better.  so this morning, i bought the first four.  i hope they’re good…i’ll bet they are.

we didn’t watch the superbowl.  i wouldn’t have minded watching but since my bears weren’t in and no one else seemed interested…i let it go.

kaity came over to borrow the car.  she found a puppy on craig’s list that she wanted and wanted to use our car to get it.  turns out, it’s a pit bull.  ugh.  why?  everyone says if they’re raised correctly that they’re sweet loving dogs….until they’re not.  i’m not sure how serious she and her boyfriend really are but if i have grandkids…i would prefer that they not be mauled by a pit bull.  ’nuff said.

painting, painting…

i was pretty ambitious yesterday.  i painted the upstairs hallway in the morning.  it went fairly quickly though it needed two coats to cover the ugly mustard yellow that the previous owners left.

when i was finished with that, i decided to tackle the kitchen as well since i was done with the hallway by 10.  this was much more labor intensive.  with the windows, doorways, cabinets and tile, i had a lot of taping and cutting in to do.  the kitchen was like a dark pumpkin color so it took 2 heavy coats to cover it.  the people that painted the kitchen before me were very sloppy.  i also noticed that the kitchen had been at different times a forest green color and a hot pink color.  weird color choices!

anyway…i’m happy to have those two spots painted.  i need to paint the formal living room, thomas’ room and the downstairs bathroom (which is tiny) and then i’m done with the house!

always behind…

well, as with written journaling, i’m terrible at keeping up a blog too! i’ve recently seen a challenge to blog everyday for a year, not matter what you end up talking about.

it’s strange that i’ve just seen this today after the horrific events in haiti yesterday. it seems frivolous to be worrying about blogging when hundreds, possibly thousands have probably lost their lives. what a terrible time!
i was watching the news this morning regarding the 7.0 earthquake tragedy and the reporter said that the people of haiti firstly need our prayers….what??? prayers??? i bet the gentleman that i saw on the video with the obviously crushed lower legs would rather have food, water and especially medical care at a time like this. i think the best way to help these people would be with material goods…not with abstract prayers to a god who caused this destruction in the first place. (oh wait…bad stuff = satan, good stuff = god.)

so…horrific…i have nothing to complain about on a day like this that wouldn’t seem absolutely petty.

what i would blog about on a normal january 13th though would that my youngest, tyler, is home sick today. the poor thing, unfortunately, inherited my predisposition to migraines. it seems as if processed meats also cause his migraines. he had beef jerky monday evening (a treat for getting his h1n1 shot) and by tuesday mid morning he had a splitting headache and eventually vomiting. poor kid! he was in bed for the rest of the day yesterday alternately sleeping and throwing up. this morning he still has a terrible headache but no more sick.

i was hoping that none of my kids would have to deal with migraines. they are HORRIBLE! mine used to knock me out for up to 3 days at a time.
