not so much to talk about…

i really wanted to do the 365 day blog challenge but i’ve realized that my life is just boring!  day after day of shannon’s boring life is not really a great blog – just  being honest!

this week was REALLY slow since i was addicted and unable to stop reading the sookie stackhouse novels by charlaine harris.  to tell you just how addicted i was i still haven’t watched my dvr’ed shows for the whole of last week and anyone who knows me will tell you that i am usually up bright an early friday morning to watch grey’s.

thomas was home sick monday, tuesday and wednesday and then both of them were off friday and will be off monday for the presidents’ day holiday.

it was a pretty uneventful week.  i went to the chiropractor on tuesday but didn’t feel like going on thursday.  i’ve been down lately…really down about a number of things and that makes me not want to leave the house.

i don’t like california other than for the weather.  this area is so shallow and people are pretty impatient and can be pretty rude on the road.  i’ve never seen so much tailgating and cutting off and i drove in europe!  i want to make some real friends but i don’t belong to the gorgeous set.

that pretty much sums up the whole week.  boring and down.

morning before school…

i decided to try an experiment this morning. i would wait to see if thomas woke up with his alarm clock rather than me having to tell him his alarm clock was beeping. it worked!

then i waited to see if he would take a quick (or at least quick in thomas terms) and he did. but would he remember to then wake his brother up and let him know that it was his turn for the shower? yes! 2 points…

awww…a strike. i had to remind them to eat breakfast. not a big deal.

i hate that there is almost no school transportation. it is impossible to plan anything other than within the school hours. otherwise, the boys have to sit at school early (as they did wed. for my dr. appt. at 7.45 am) or they have to hang out late afterschool (as they did when i had to take kaity to work). i understand that there is a budget crisis in california but this does not help. if i were to want to work, i would have to find a job that would start no earlier than 8.30 and finish by 2.30. not an easy prospect.

california drivers are horrible by american standards. they don’t hold a candle to italian drivers but still horrible none the less. i can’t tell you the number of drivers that are distracted by their phones and wander into my lane. my horn is working over time. i know now why the laws against cell phone use by drivers is so important. yesterday morning there was an horrific looking single vehicle accident. it blocked the 3 middle lanes of santa margarita. thankfully, i saw a gentleman on the side of the road talking to a cop so i hope that was the driver and that he was ok. his vehicle was totaled and he took out a number of street signs.

hollywood…for the first time

michael, the boys and i went to los angeles for the first time since moving here. it’s taken awhile since michael has had to go into work on the weekends and we’ve had to continue the house search daily…

we decided this labor day to go check out grauman’s chinese theatre. michael really wanted to see this place (i have big city anxiety!) so off we went.

i was pleasantly surprised by the traffic on the freeways heading to los angeles (i’ve since been initiated). traffic was moving swiftly and we were there in about an hour. we found parking quite easily under the kodak theatre.

after walking out of the kodak theatre, we saw the starline tour buses sitting right out front. we thought it would be fun to take a tour around town since we had never been to LA before. the boys were a little less excited than we were. :) it was nice to see the city with some context. now we have a better idea of where things are and what to see next time.

the tour lasted 3 hours. that was a longgggg tour with no sunscreen! thank goodness we each bought a drink before starting.

after finishing the tour, we went back into the kodak theatre and had some lunch at johnny rocket’s. we first discovered this place while we were in dublin and liked it so we decided to try it again.

it was a nice day and worth doing again….

i guess it’s harp on croatia month…

so this evening we’re on our way to kaptol centar to have a dinner and maybe a coffee. we’re driving up ribnjak and waiting to turn on grskovica. at this particular light you can turn left on green after yielding or if you’re patient, you’ll get a green arrow. we were waiting our turn and when we got the green arrow, we had to wait for 2 cars to run their red light. we began our turn and yet another car ran the light, almost hit us and then had the frickin’ nerve to start yelling and gestering at us! only a croatian could have the nads to run a red light and blame it on the guy in the right. i’m really getting sick of this…
