shannon…

this is such a tough section to write. i’ll start off with what i’ve typed numerous times on many others pages that make you describe yourself….

the busby family

i’m a happily married mom of 3 children. my children are kaitlyn (1990), thomas (1995) and tyler (1997).

my husband and i met in 1992 and married in 1994. we’ve had and continue to have great adventures…from illinois to new york to rginia to croatia to california and now to kentucky. some places have been better than others.  i really love kentucky so far.

michael and shannon – 1994

as asked about very frequently…my interests are politics, religion (or lack thereof), genealogy, scrapbooking, crocheting and history. not always in that order…

i’m an atheist and quite happy with the decision. i grew up lutheran and test drove the LDS church and being a wiccan. i figured out eventually that all three were wrong for me and haven’t looked back since.

i’m liberal (websters: favorable to progress or reform; free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant; characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts; favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression). as opposed to conservative (websters: disposed to preserve existing conditions or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change; cautiously moderate or purposefully low)

so i guess what that means is that i believe in progress. i think that our government should be moving policies forward (e.g. global climate change, freedom from religion, gun control) not looking at policies from the past (e.g. reaganomics, unregulated banking, unsustainable lower tax rates for upper income brackets).

when i say i’m an atheist…that is often misunderstood as a belief system. it’s not. it just means i don’t believe there is a god; any god. my belief system is secular humanism (an outlook or philosophy that advocates human rather than religious values).

i love to scrapbook. it goes hand in hand in hand with my love of genealogy and history. i can form a complete picture of my family and family history and put it in a beautiful package. what more could i ask for?

i’ve recently begun to crochet.  i learned years ago but never went anywhere with it.  i picked it up again when i settled in in kentucky and found out that i am expecting my first granchild, a girl, in early march.

i grew up in illinois mostly in the middle of farm country in central illinois. it was tough. we were one of  less than a handful of liberal families. we were from out of town and therefore outsiders. we were always viewed as such. my dad bought the local tavern after a few years. that made him a buddy to the community…until he fell ill. the friends drop away like flies after that but what can you do? suck it up and drive on….

that’s simply who i am…..shannon

the older platinum me...
