i’m sure i’ve written about this before but maybe not here on my blog. as my 2 readers know, i can’t stand fox news. the last thing they are is fair or balanced. as matter of fact, they are so far from it that it’s become a joke! they are, weekly if not daily, proven to have been inaccurate or down right false in their reporting.
now, roger ailes has said that not all of their programming is “news”. some of it is commentary so it cannot be held to the same standard. ok. we’ll go with that. however, if you look at the segments that they DO consider news, a whole host of news outlets, blogs, newspapers and commentators have shown that even the news portions of the show lie or mislead.
the reason for this particular post is that the ratings are out and yet again, fox has dominated. they can claim that as all their own. there is nothing false about those numbers. kudos to them.
that being said, it just shows that the right wing conservatives in this country head to one place and one place only on tv to get their news-faux news. they don’t like what the other stations have to say because it doesn’t line up with their far right leanings so they just go to fox and it soothes their ruffled feathers and plays right into the wingnuttery of the right.
liberals, on the other hand, choose many different outlets. we are not content to look at one source only. myself, i watched msnbc and occasionally cnn when i had tv. i would pop fox on during important events just to see how they were skewing it to the right’s advantage. then, after watching it, i would go online and check out various sources; huffington post for example as well as washington post or new york times. i might even have a look at the chicago tribune and l.a. times. for california news, i liked to look at the l.a. times and orange country register side by side. the times, which is usually considered to be a fairly decent paper though the righties whinge about it’s liberal leanings. the o.c. register on the other hand is definitely a far right leaning paper.
so i guess the whole point of this post is just to say that while fox news did win in the ratings wars and since ailes only cares about profits (in his own words) that they have gotten exactly what they wanted. if you’re looking at the reality of it, conservatives want to be pandered to and liberals like to have actual facts thrown their way.
oh, one more thing…
if, as o’leilly likes to do, you point out that they have a number of declared democrats watching, they are probably similar to me in that they are watching in order to have a broader understanding of the news that’s out there-number 1 and 2-they want to see how badly skewed the news will be on the propaganda machine known as fox.
so…don’t pat yourselves on the back too hard fox. you’re a great station for pulling in ratings. as for news, not so much.
