i’ve been gone to trinidad for a week and obviously missed several interesting news stories. i had seen a little blip about rep. issa (r-ca) who is on the house committee on oversight and government reform. he is chomping at the bit to win the house in the fall so that he can start issuing subpoenas at an astronomical rate.
this morning, while browsing huffpo, i saw this story: republicans threaten repeals, subpoenas if they take back the house.
when i see a story like this, of course it brings back memories of the clinton years. i think that clinton was a fantastic president; maybe not a great husband but a fantastic president. i often think back and wonder what more might have been accomplished during his 8 years in office had republicans focused on legislating rather than this vindictive series of witch hunts.
i remember being really, REALLY pissed off at nancy pelosi when she said she wanted to look forward and not back when asked why she wouldn’t attempt to impeach dubya. after all the hell that repugs put clinton through for almost nothing…yes, NOTHING…and we were going to let this slimeball slide after advocating torture, starting a war for no good reason, firing people in government for the sole reason that they didn’t agree with him, outing a cia agent, etc, etc, etc…
i now realize that pelosi and the rest of the dems were focusing on legislating. they were trying to overturn the utter devastation that the dubya admin. wreaked upon america during his 8 years. now that i look back, i don’t blame her. i still wish that they would have impeached him. if ever there was a case for impeachment, it was this guy. however, i understand why she didn’t.
now, repugs are going back to the same tired story. they can’t wait to be in charge so they can throw out subpoenas like the daily trash. it doesn’t matter for what, if they throw enough, they hope one or two will stick. like our country has nothing better to deal with than a misdirected, misguided series of witch hunts. these are the people that got us into this huge mess in the first place and they want to quit focusing on recovery and start focusing on the bogus charges and childish finger shaking.
the tea partiers and 9/12-ers can’t wait for this stuff to start. do these people realize that while issa, et al are worried about subpoenas that unemployment, foreclosure, bankruptcy, etc… will still be rampant? the numbers will probably go up!
i would hope that a story like this will show that repugs aren’t concerned with actually governing after taking over this fall. they want to score points. we’ll see what the tired little glennbeckians do in november…
