la brea tar pit – LA…

michael and i decided to head up to LA to see our friend jake. i had not seen him in years! michael saw him in april when he was here for his interview. we wanted to see the la brea tar pits so we arranged to meet jake at his house and head over.

the area was so much smaller than i thought it would be. i guess i just imagined this huge park with pits all over the place. i have to admit i’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer. i didn’t even think about the fact that the earth has undergone catastrophic changes so the tar pits are only from the last 15000 years or so. so NO dinosaurs!

the museum was super cool though. we saw the huge columbian mammoth skeleton but just as cool was a wall that was just covered with the skulls of hundreds of dire wolves. they were each individual; none were copies. very cool!

it was amazing to see and i’m glad i finally did. the tar pits are still very active. the big one at front is fenced in but huge bubbles explode from the surface quite regularly.
