so i’ve realized that driving in croatia is a free-for-all for the most part. pretty much anything goes but even i was shocked yesterday. as i’m sitting at a red light…right behind a cop car with two cops in it…the light turns red/yellow (for americans, this is the signal to get ready, put your car in gear, green is coming) and then green. the cop moves forward into the intersection to cross the street and i follow behind. then a green car comes sliding right through the obviously red light on his end. right in front of the cop who has to stop in the middle of the intersection! the green car has to skid to a stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian who clearly had the walk light!
what does the cop (license 010 504) do you ask?? i was curious to see. surely this would be the time they finally stop someone for a blatant infraction, right? i mean red light running is a sport here but this was blatant – in your face!
the cop stops…stays stopped…both cops turn their head and look at the green car, now a few feet away now stopped for the pedestrian. and then what? the turn their heads back and continue on their way.
WTF???
it doesn’t get anymore blatant unless the green car would have hit the cop car and….
NOTHING! NO TICKET! NOTHING!
i’m just dumbfounded.
