health care reform…

i’m disgusted with the direction of health care reform. i’m sure republicans and their supporters are thrilled. their poor supporters just don’t know what they have thrown away.

i hate joe lieberman. i’m not a religious person nor do i believe in spiritual karma so i can safely say that if he were to have a heart attack or be hit by a bus or even shot tomorrow, i wouldn’t be sad. if i did believe in karma i would say that he got his just desserts. if democrats let him keep his homeland security chairmanship after this…i will sit out the vote next year. let them win without me. they will not only lose their 60 votes but will lose the majority totally. and they would deserve it.

when this stupid news programs talk about how american opinion has changed on health care reform, that now more are against it than for it, they aren’t talking about the whole picture. their is now a majority against it because half or more of those are liberals like me that think this bill is so watered down as to to not do anything for the little guy and everything for insurance companies. disgusting.

and…she’s back! california catch up miscellaneous…

wow…it’s been so long since i’ve blogged! with the new house and various other little things, i just haven’t had much time or inclination. but now that i’ve had my wisdom teeth dragged kicking and screaming from my mouth…i have some downtime! my face looks a little bit like a chipmunk! ok, a lot like a chipmunk!

the last few months have been super busy. a few of our adventures:

viatronidooutside1
we moved into the house on september 15th. our shipment of goods from croatia came right away but our goods from virginia took forever! so thomas and kaity had to sleep on the floor until the goods got here.

we’re pretty happy in the house now. it is starting to feel like home. we had the downstairs area repainted to get rid of that terrible mustard color. it’s a beautiful very light yellow. i painted tyler’s room a nice spring green. i’m sure he’s happy that he doesn’t have to live in that hot pink room anymore! kaity painted her room a really pretty sage green. i have the paint for thomas’ room and our room but haven’t gotten to it yet.

halloween 2009…

we were told when we first moved into the neighborhood that there was a big potluck get together in the cul-de-sac every year for halloween. i was excited about it since i would get to meet everyone on the block. also nervous since i’m pretty much socially inept. :) i had no idea whether or not the adults dressed up but michael talked me into it so i did. he knows how much i hate public humiliation and embarrassment!

michael decided to be a rock star. he looked so good! it was really funny though, several neighbors came up and asked me if his hair was real. they were afraid to say something and it be an insult if his hair WAS real. they weren’t sure since we live so close to hollyweird. michael said the bonus was that he could take it all off and they would never know who he was.

as i said, socially inept. the costume i originally bought didn’t fit correctly so i went this route instead. it was a fail. i hated it!

thomas' basic ninja costume...very little work but lots of candy

every year thomas wants to go as a terrorist or an arsonist or a ninja assassin. this year, it was a minimum of effort. just a t-shirt around his head a toy machine gun and a sword. it was enough to net him a bag full of candy.

tyler saw this costume at target and just HAD to have it. the first one i bought had a broken zipper. when i got the second one, he wanted to wear it right away. on halloween, he had it on by 3 even though the party didn’t start until 4:30. he slipped out of the house with no shoes on. his feet were filthy by the end of the night!

i made pumpkin bread and heath bar cookies. neither were a smashing success but now i know for next year…no sweet items! the kids get enough candy sweets. we needed more savory items.

we did get to meet most of the neighbors which was nice. it was a bit rough though because they all know each other and weren’t super inclusive. michael went home and i went back for a bit on my own. i kind of stood around and tried to join some conversations but it wasn’t really working so i went home. awkward!

thomas turns 14…

i cannot believe how fast my children have grown. thomas turned 14 today! he’s just a hair shorter than me and that won’t last long. he voice is lower and nothing of a baby face remains at all. soon he’ll be taller than me, stronger than me and hopefully wiser than me.

a tradition at our house is to serve the kids breakfast in bed on their birthdays. thomas had presented me with his menu requests the night before. he had a VERY had time waking up this time.

health care….again

sometimes i feel every single blond hair on my head when something dawns on my so late in my thought process!

i have been completely wrapped up in this health care debate. i was wrapped up in it back in 90’s. it’s personal. i want it to happen this time around. i need it to happen this time around.

so in the midst of all of these craziness going on…it dawned on me that if things were to remain exactly as they are now in the health care world, when michael retires (if it’s before medicare days…) we will be without insurance. not because we couldn’t afford, because we hopefully could but because we both have several preexisting conditions. we had hoped/dreamed/joked about retiring when michael is 55. it’s a dream and a long shot but could happen if things go well in his career. it dawned on this dumb blond a bit late that even though we might be financially secure, we would not have health insurance nor any chance of getting it because of our preexisting conditions!

if michael were to have a recurrence of his colorectal cancer and we had no insurance, it would break us. my preexisting conditions are minor for the most part but his are not. we wouldn’t do it. he will have to work until he’s 67.5 at least. that is the earliest that medicare would kick in.

with no change in the current system…that’s it. the decision is made for us.
